These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of Atlas. By using Atlas, you agree to these terms. Please read them carefully.

Summary of key points
- Atlas turns your lecture recordings and uploads into structured study notes for personal, educational use — and it’s currently in beta, so features may change.
- You need an account and must be at least 13. You’re responsible for keeping your login secure and for activity under your account.
- Atlas is free during the beta. We’ll never charge you without you first choosing a paid plan.
- Use Atlas lawfully: get any consent required to record, only upload content you have the rights to, and don’t abuse, disrupt, or reverse-engineer the service.
- You keep ownership of your audio and notes; you grant us a limited licence to process them to provide the service. AI output can be wrong — treat it as a study aid, not advice.
- The service is provided “as is,” our liability is limited, and these terms are governed by Canadian law (Ontario, Saskatchewan, and Alberta).
This summary is for convenience only — the full policy below is what governs.
01Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account or otherwise using Atlas, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you may not use the service.
If you are using Atlas on behalf of an institution, you represent that you have authority to accept these terms.
02Description of Service
Atlas turns lecture recordings and uploads into structured study notes, summaries, and transcripts, and lets you edit, organize, and export them.
The service is offered for personal, educational use and is currently in beta — it is under active development, and features may change, be added, or be removed over time.
03User Accounts
You need an account to use Atlas. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity that occurs under your account.
You must be at least 13 years old to use Atlas, which is built for students in higher education.
Some of the third-party providers Atlas relies on — including our AI providers — set their own eligibility and minimum-age requirements, and some require users to be 18 or older, or to have reached the age of majority where they live. The minimum age for any given feature is the stricter of our requirement and that of the providers it depends on, and you agree that you meet it. We may update these requirements as our providers, or the models we use, change.
You agree to provide accurate information and to notify us promptly of any unauthorized use of your account.
Due to certain policies of our service providers, any accounts suspected to be operated by a user under 13 years of age will be restricted, temporarily banned, or deleted, at our discretion.
04Plans & Payments
Atlas is free to use during the beta, and we don't require payment information to create an account. We may introduce paid plans (such as Pro and Max) in the future. If we do, we'll clearly describe what each plan includes and give you notice before any charges apply — you'll never be charged without first choosing a paid plan.
05Acceptable Use
You agree not to use Atlas to record people without the consent required by law, to infringe others’ rights, to upload unlawful content, or to attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorized access to the service.
You must follow your institution’s policies and applicable laws regarding the recording of lectures — some instructors and venues require prior consent.
You agree not to abuse the service — including automated or excessive use, attempts to circumvent usage limits, uploading content you do not have rights to process, sharing accounts to evade restrictions, or any activity that imposes unreasonable load on Atlas or our providers.
06Your Content & License
You keep ownership of the audio you record or upload and the notes generated for you. To run Atlas, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, process, transcribe, analyze, reproduce, and display your content — solely to provide, secure, and improve the service for you.
This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies retained briefly in secure backups or where the law requires us to keep them.
You are responsible for ensuring you have the rights necessary to record, upload, and process the content you bring to Atlas, and that doing so does not violate the law or anyone else’s rights, including any consent required to record a lecture.
07AI Features & Output
Atlas uses artificial intelligence to transcribe recordings and generate notes, summaries, transcripts, and answers, and may use AI for additional study features over time. AI-generated output can be incomplete, inaccurate, or out of date. It is a study aid, not professional, legal, medical, or academic advice, and you should not rely on it as your only source — always use your own judgment and verify anything important.
As between you and us, you own the notes and other output generated for you, subject to our rights in the Atlas software and brand. You are responsible for how you use AI output, and for using Atlas in line with the policies of any underlying AI provider.
You agree not to misuse the AI features — for example, to generate unlawful content, to attempt to extract or reverse-engineer the underlying models or their training data, or to circumvent usage limits or safety measures.
08Account Suspension & Access Restrictions
We may suspend, restrict, or terminate your account if we detect unusual activity, suspected abuse, violations of these terms, or conduct that risks the security, reliability, or cost of the service.
Suspension may be applied automatically by our systems when protective limits are triggered. If your account is restricted, you may be unable to sign in or continue using Atlas, at our discretion.
When processing is paused or an account is restricted, certain data associated with your account — including recordings, uploads, transcripts, and notes — may be retained for a limited period and may be deleted thereafter. Retention is not guaranteed.
If you believe a restriction was applied in error, contact us at hello@atlasai.ca.
09Intellectual Property
Atlas, including its software, design, and branding, is owned by Atlas Co. and protected by intellectual property laws. These terms do not grant you any right to our trademarks or other brand features.
10Feedback
If you send us ideas, suggestions, or feedback about Atlas, you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free licence to use them to improve the service, without any obligation or compensation to you.
11Third-Party Services & Links
Atlas may link to or rely on third-party services — for example, sign-in providers or the AI providers that help write your notes. We are not responsible for the content, policies, or practices of third parties, and your use of their services is governed by their own terms.
Your use of Atlas is also subject to the eligibility, age, and acceptable-use policies of these providers, and you agree to comply with them. If a provider changes its policies, or if we change the providers or models we use, the requirements that apply to you may change as well.
12Service Availability, Modifications & Interruptions
Atlas is in beta and provided on an evolving basis. We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service at any time, and the service may be unavailable from time to time due to maintenance, updates, or factors beyond our control.
We are not liable for any modification, suspension, or interruption of the service, though we will try to give notice of significant changes where practical. You are responsible for keeping your own copies of anything important; while we perform routine backups, we do not guarantee against the loss or corruption of your content.
13Termination
You may stop using Atlas and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these terms or if necessary to protect the service or other users.
Upon termination, your right to use the service ends, and we may delete your associated content as described in our Privacy Policy.
14Disclaimers
Atlas is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee that notes will be complete or error-free, or that the service will be uninterrupted, secure, or free of errors.
15Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Atlas Co. and its team will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, arising from or related to your use of, or inability to use, the service.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to the service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us for the service in the 12 months before the claim, or CAD $100. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability, so some of these limits may not apply to you.
16Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Atlas Co. and its team from any claims, losses, damages, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your content, your use of the service, your violation of these terms, or your violation of any law or the rights of a third party.
17Reporting Copyright Infringement
We respect intellectual property rights. If you believe content on Atlas infringes your copyright, contact us at hello@atlasai.ca with enough detail to identify the copyrighted work and the allegedly infringing material, your contact information, and a statement of your good-faith belief that the use is not authorized. We will review and respond appropriately, and we may remove infringing content and restrict repeat infringers.
18Electronic Communications
By using Atlas, you consent to receive communications from us electronically — such as emails and in-app notices — and you agree that electronic communications, agreements, and records satisfy any legal requirement that such communications be in writing.
19Dispute Resolution
If a dispute arises, we ask that you first contact us at hello@atlasai.ca so we can try to resolve it informally — most concerns can be resolved that way. If we cannot resolve a dispute within 30 days, it will be handled by the courts identified in Governing Law below.
To the extent permitted by law, disputes will be resolved on an individual basis, and not as part of a class or representative action.
20Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Saskatchewan, and Alberta, as well as the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. You agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in the provinces of Ontario, Saskatchewan, and Alberta.
21Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms as Atlas evolves. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of Atlas after an update means you accept the revised terms.
22Miscellaneous
These terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and Atlas Co. regarding the service. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.
You may not assign these terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. Nothing in these terms creates a partnership, agency, or employment relationship, and we are not liable for failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
